Agents practice on AI customers, not on your leads.
Hostcomm's AI training simulator lets new and experienced agents rehearse calls with AI customers that behave like real ones: a ready buyer, a skeptical director who is still in contract, a gatekeeper who won't put you through. Each practice customer is a Persona AI agent. Agents call it from inside the Connecta dialer, so they learn the conversation and the real screen at the same time, and nobody real is ever called.
Hostcomm has built contact-centre technology since 2004; Hostcomm LLC brought the platform to the US market in 2024. Last updated 10 October 2026.
The AI pushes back like a real customer
Practice that only rewards reading the script word for word doesn't prepare anyone for a real gatekeeper. Each practice customer has its own objections and reacts to tone: clear, honest agents get further; pushy or vague ones get pushed back.
Scenario shown: busy gatekeeper, still in contract.
How it works
Build the customer in Persona
Each practice customer is a Persona AI agent with a personality, objections and made-up account details — current supplier, contract end date, who signs. It reacts to how it is treated: it warms to an agent who is clear and honest, and pushes back on one who is pushy or vague.
Give it a practice line in Connecta
An admin adds the scenario under Settings → AI practice customers. It gets its own practice number and appears as a button for agents. Practice lines never leave the platform and never ring a real person.
Agents call it like a real customer
From My queue → Make a call, the agent clicks the scenario. The call runs exactly like a live one: the call screen, the script, recording, and the wrap-up form. Then it is reviewed like any other call.

Scenarios you can build
A scenario is a Persona agent's brief, so it can be any customer your agents meet. A few that teams start with:
| Scenario | Use | What the agent practices |
|---|---|---|
| Ready buyer | Outbound sales | Says yes quickly — practice qualifying properly and booking the next step without over-talking. |
| Skeptical director, in contract | Outbound sales | Contract ends in March; wants a reason to talk now. Practice getting to a next step without arguing. |
| Gatekeeper | Outbound sales | Not the decision maker and won't transfer. Practice asking for the named contact and booking a callback. |
| Billing complaint | Customer service | Angry about a charge. Practice acknowledging, checking the account and explaining the next step. |
| Wants to cancel | Retention | Has a competitor's offer. Practice finding the real reason before making a save offer. |
| Payment difficulty | Collections | Can't pay this month. Practice the required disclosures and an affordable arrangement. |
Why practice inside the dialer
| Role-play with a colleague | Standalone AI training tool | AI practice customers in Connecta | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uses your real script | Usually | If you load it | Yes |
| Uses the agent's real screen | No | No | Yes |
| Recording and wrap-up form | No | Varies | Yes, same as a live call |
| Reviewed with your QA scorecard | Rarely | Its own scoring | Yes, with Interaction Analytics |
| Also tests the campaign | No | No | Yes |
| Needs a second person | Yes | No | No |
Feedback on every practice call
During the call
Agent Assist transcribes live and shows prompts, exactly as it does on real calls.
At wrap-up
A summary pre-fills the wrap-up notes, so the practice call is logged like any other.
Afterwards
With Interaction Analytics on, your scorecard is answered with the transcript line as evidence — did they confirm the decision maker, handle the price objection, give the opt-out? Click the quote and the recording jumps to that moment.
The same calls test your campaign
A practice call follows the path a live call does, so a supervisor can check a new campaign before the first real dial:
- →The script reads naturally out loud and branches where it should
- →The right record and fields appear on the call screen
- →The call is recorded and the recording notice comes up when it should
- →Every outcome writes back to the dialer and your CRM
- →How the call path treats a human “hello” — built-in test numbers cover voicemail and ring-out
A first-week plan
- Day 1 — product and compliance basics, then three calls with the easiest scenario.
- Day 2 — the skeptical, in-contract scenario until the agent reaches a next step without arguing.
- Day 3 — the gatekeeper; practice asking for the named contact and booking a callback.
- Day 4 — review two recorded practice calls with a supervisor, against the scorecard.
- Day 5 — live calls on a warm list, with Agent Assist on and a supervisor able to listen and whisper.
The customers are Persona AI agents
Practice customers run on Persona, the same platform Hostcomm uses for production AI voice agents that answer and make calls for businesses. Persona agents are briefed in plain English, so writing a new practice customer is like briefing an actor.
Questions training managers ask
What is an AI training simulator for contact center agents?
A way for agents to rehearse real conversations with an AI that plays the customer, before they speak to real customers. In Hostcomm's version each practice customer is a Persona AI agent with its own personality, objections and account details, and agents call it from inside the Connecta dialer, so they practice the script and the real call screen at the same time.
Does a practice call ever reach a real person?
No. Each practice line connects the agent to an AI playing the customer. Practice lines never leave the platform, and the call is recorded and wrapped up like any other so it can be reviewed.
Can we write our own scenarios?
Yes. A scenario is a Persona AI agent's instructions: the customer's personality, objections, and made-up details such as their current supplier or contract end date. You can have up to 100 scenarios, each with its own practice line, and agents see them as buttons in the dialer.
Is it only for outbound sales?
No. Any conversation an agent needs to rehearse can be a scenario — a billing complaint, a cancellation, a payment arrangement, a technical fault. The agent starts the practice call from the dialer, and the AI plays whichever customer the scenario describes.
How are practice calls scored?
The same way as live calls. Agent Assist transcribes and prompts during the call, a summary pre-fills the wrap-up, and with Interaction Analytics on your QA scorecard is answered with the exact transcript line as evidence, linked to that moment in the recording.
How does this help new agents get productive faster?
New agents get their first difficult conversations — the objection, the gatekeeper, the angry customer — with an AI instead of a real prospect, inside the tool they will use live. Supervisors coach from recordings and scorecard evidence rather than impressions. With annual agent attrition around 31% in US contact centers (ContactBabel), most teams are training all year round.
Can we use it to test a new campaign?
Yes. A practice call follows the same path a live call does, so a supervisor can check the script, the call screen and fields, the recording, and that every outcome writes back to the dialer and the CRM before the first real dial. Built-in test numbers cover voicemail, ring-out and other call behaviors.
Where do the AI customers come from?
They are Persona AI agents — the same platform Hostcomm uses for production AI voice agents that answer and make calls for businesses. Persona agents are configured with natural-language instructions, so writing a practice customer is like briefing an actor.
Figures: ContactBabel, The US Contact Center Decision-Makers' Guide 2024 (16th edition) — mean annual agent attrition 31% (median 24%) at year-end 2023; staffing up to 75% of operating cost. More detail: AI practice customers: train agents and test campaigns before the first live dial.
